Estuary Arts World War 1 Commemorative Programme
Posted on March 21st, 2014
Some of the highlights of the event at the Estuary Arts Centre in Orewa include:
- A rare collection of original military artworks from War time artists such as Frank Crozier (on loan from the Auckland War memorial Museum)
- 1800 ceramic poppies made by over 1200 young people in our community. Our aim was to make approximately 10 % of the more than 18,000 New Zealanders who lost their lives. This tribute to these men will be displayed in a huge wall installation in the gallery.
- A disability stitch project – adults who live with multiple disabilities have been involved in this creative programme for more than 6 months, to stitch examples of World War posters, letters and postcards as well as the famous poem “In Flanders Fields”.
- A local writer Lyn Dawson will be holding a series of writers workshops, “Lest We Forget” .
